Safe Routes to Schools

HumPAL encourages collaboration between schools and transportation departments to improve the ability of families and children to safely walk, bike, and roll to school through Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) projects. HumPAL builds relationships between local jurisdictions and schools, facilitates walk to school day events and walkability audits, and convened a Safe Routes to School Summit to catalyze SR2S projects throughout the County.

HumPAL is leading Education & Encouragement activities at Washington Elementary School in Eureka for the 2010-2011 Academic Year!

Learn about HumPAL's Safe Routes to Schools Summit in 2008, which brought together transportation providers, school officials, public health officials, electeds, policymakers, planners, and others to discover how Humboldt could create safer routes to schools in our rural region.

Be sure to check out HumPAL's Humboldt County Safe Routes to Schools Toolkit for application information for state and federal SR2S applications, event ideas, lesson plans, and engineering ideas!
